You Wanna Know?

You really want to know how bad things can get? Just take a look at Job 40 1-24. There’s this wealthy guy who, at Satan’s request, God allowed to be tested to the max. First of all, his ten children are taken and all of his earthly possessions are wiped out. While mourning the death of his ten children, he is plagued with a horrendous skin disease. After going through all of this, his wife became disenchanted with him, and there was division between the two. Then three of his close friends began to berate him and called him all kinds of bad names and accused him of being unworthy or God would not have let his children be taken. Later, another friend sent him an encouraging letter that caused him to turn back to God. And God rewarded him by restoring his wealth several times over and blessed him with another ten children...and yes, there was reconciliation with his wife, and he lived another one-hundred-forty years! God is not in the business of discarding us when we mess up. He makes us whole, just like He did Job. You wanna know how to handle suffering and how to deal with it. There is wisdom here in the “Wisdom Book” of Job.

You really want to know how to worship the Lord God Almighty? Give thanks in everything. Rejoice always and pray without ceasing. Psalm 100:4 says “Enter His gates with a song of thanksgiving. And His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, bless and praise His name.” Praise Him! Let God know the many wonderful things that He has done and continues to do for you, your family, and others that you know and love. Worship Him! Be in fellowship with God, worship Him, and give Him worth way beyond measure for who He is. There is wisdom here in the “Wisdom Book” of Psalms.

You really want to know how to treat others? Proverbs 17:27 says “ He who has knowledge restrains and is careful with his words, and a man of understanding and wisdom has a cool spirit (self-control, an even temper).” Knowledge, understanding, good judgment, good choices add up to biblical wisdom. Careful of speech - no cursing or gossip, good works, respect for others, merciful, forgiveness, no judgment of others...these are just some of the attributes of biblical wisdom. There is wisdom here in the “Wisdom Book” of Proverbs.

You really want to know what life really means? Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 tells us 13 When all has been heard, the end of the matter is: fear God [worship Him with awe-filled reverence, knowing that He is almighty God] and keep His commandments, for this applies to every person. 14 For God will bring every act to judgment, every hidden and secret thing, whether it is good or evil.” So tells the author of Ecclesiastes, who identifies himself with the word “qoheleth” (Hebrew for teacher) and then again later as the “Son of David. So enter the wisest man in all of the world in his day, Solomon. Although Solomon had every earthly possession that anyone could want, in his later years he looked back on life and determined that the only thing in life was to “fear God”. This is referenced in above in chapter 12:13-14. God is omnipresent, always with us...we can trust. There is wisdom here in the “Wisdom Book” of Ecclesiastes.

You really want to know how a husband and wife should love one another? Solomon’s beautiful lyric poem, “Song of Songs” (Song of Solomon) describes the holy relationship between a husband and his wife. The description of the physical relationship made many of the day quite uncomfortable and it had to be periodically vigorously defended by some of the Jewish religious leaders of the day. Solomon was quite a poet and the fullness of the marriage union is presented with warmth and richness. “(Young Woman) 1 The Song of Songs [the best of songs], which is Solomon’s. 2 “May he kiss me with the kisses of his mouth!” [Solomon arrives, she turns to him, saying,] “For your love is better than wine. 3 “The aroma of your oils is fragrant and pleasing; Your name is perfume poured out; Therefore the maidens love you.” Song of Solomon 1:1-3 God is so good and we should always remember that godly marriage is a cornerstone of society. There is wisdom here in the “Wisdom Book” of Song of Songs.
